Live Minutes and Live Captions are unofficial drafts taken from Parliament's live feeds. For the official record, see the Votes & Proceedings and Hansard.

HouseLive follows Australian House of Representatives proceedings while the House is sitting, and lets you browse the documents from past sitting days of the 48th Parliament. Everything it shows comes from Parliament's own systems.

While the House is sitting

Three things sit side by side, for both the House and the Federation Chamber:

  • Live Minutes: the draft minutes the Department of the House of Representatives publishes during a sitting, reformatted for easier reading and updated automatically.
  • Live Captions: closed captions from Parliament's ParlView broadcast. Speaker changes are inferred from the broadcast's colour coding.
  • The day's Daily Program and Notice Paper can be opened alongside.

Past sitting days

The sitting calendar opens any past day of the 48th Parliament. Each day links to its Votes & Proceedings (the official record of what the House decided), Daily Program and Notice Paper, plus Hansard and ParlView video on the APH website.

The Votes & Proceedings, Daily Program and Notice Paper are re-rendered here for easy reading. The official version of each is the PDF published on the APH website, which every document links to. Votes & Proceedings appear first as a “proof” and update to “final” once Parliament publishes it.

Use of AI

The live captions are generated by Parliament's own broadcasting service, not by HouseLive. HouseLive doesn't rewrite, summarise or paraphrase any of the minutes or caption text; it's shown as Parliament publishes it.

For the re-rendered documents (Votes & Proceedings, the Daily Program and the Notice Paper), AI is sometimes used to make sense of ParlInfo's inconsistent formatting and lay the content out clearly. It only structures how the existing text is presented (headings, indenting, lists); it never changes, adds to or removes the words.

The one place AI is used live: during Question Time it identifies where in the captions each question begins, so questions can be labelled. It places markers only; the questions and all text still come from Parliament.

Limitations

  • Minutes are drafts and may differ from the final Votes & Proceedings.
  • Captions can contain errors or miss words, and speaker identification (from colour coding) isn't always accurate.
  • There may be gaps during breaks, adjournments, or service interruptions.
  • Data comes from public APH systems, which can change without notice.
